The Apple Watch 5 is expected to come out next month, and rumors are starting to pick up. There have been a lot of unconfirmed features that have circulated across the web, leading to the launch.
Among them is that the Apple Watch 5 will supposedly have a sleep tracking feature to monitor the sleeping pattern of users. The speculation started when the Cupertino-based company acquired Beddit, a company that’s dealing with sleep tracking hardware.
While there is a possibility that the Apple Watch 5 could sport this feature, the device’s battery would need to be significantly better than its predecessor, CNET reported. So far, all of the entry still needs to be charged overnight, limiting its use to day time only.
Apple Watch 5 and its supposed noise detection app
But it’s not just the battery life that Apple Watch 5 needs to upgrade but its screen and processor as well. Upgrading to less power-hungry chip and display would increase the wearable’s battery life, although not by much. For that to happen, the battery itself needs to be upgraded.
Another rumor that’s been attached with the Apple Watch 5 is that it will supposedly have a noise detection app that can alert people if they’re exposing themselves to harmful noises. The World Health Organization has labeled noises exceeding above 85 decibels as damaging. Heavy traffic, sports crowd, gunshots, chainsaw, and concerts are just some of the many things that can cause hearing damage.
The potential security vulnerability of the Apple Watch 5
The Apple Watch 5 will be using its mic to test decibel levels from time to time. Although this would certainly be a welcome feature, security concerns have been put forward due to potential unwanted record of conversations. The concerns escalated when Apple itself announced that they’re discontinuing the Walkie-Talkie app that’s been identified as a potential vulnerability.
“We were just made aware of a vulnerability related to the Walkie-Talkie app on the Apple Watch and have disabled the function as we quickly fix the issue. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and will restore the functionality as soon as possible,” Apple said. These two features are just some of the many benefits of the Apple Watch 5, with blood glucose and BP monitoring the other health features that have been put forward.
As for when it will be released, Apple is still keeping everything close to its chest. However, Forbes suggests that it may come out on Sept. 10 along with a line of new iPhones.
