Even throughout a raging pandemic, former first lady Michelle Obama continues to be a positive influence on many Americans, reaching out whether in person or online. The former first lady is among the latest content creators to have an exclusive podcast on the music streaming app Spotify.
CNBC reports the former first lady will be hosting the Michelle Obama Podcast, which will be launching on July 29. This is the first project that comes from the deal Spotify has made with the Obamas’ production company called Higher Ground. The podcast will touch on topics such as vulnerability, relationships, and health and will feature guests, including Michelle Norris, Conan O’Brien, and former Obama administration senior adviser Valerie Jarrett among many other public figures.
“Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations - and hard conversations - with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another,” said the former first lady about her upcoming podcast.
Michelle previously released her Netflix documentary “Becoming,” this year. The documentary expanded on her best-selling memoir of the same name. The former first lady also went on a hugely successful book tour for her memoir, visiting over 30 cities in both North America and in Europe. Moments behind the scenes of the tour were also featured in the documentary, as well as footage of her interviews during the tour with hosts Oprah Winfrey and Stephen Colbert.
Previously this week, Michelle was among the special guests in the annual Girl Up Leadership Summit. The event that was held online out of concerns of the pandemic took place for three days from July 13 to July 15, featuring many inspiring women who are actively advocating for gender equality with the hopes of getting the younger generation to engage in the conversation.
Alongside the former first lady, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle was also among the guests. Actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas hosted a Q&A session. Other public figures include 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Sandberg, UN Women director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, historian Nina Ansary, educator Tererai Trent, Chloe X Halle, Jameela Jamil, and Storm Reid.
