Law enforcement officials are still at work in the wide-ranging probe of the events of January 6. A recent raid of a couple’s home in Newton County, Georgia, was revealed to be related to the ongoing probe.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that federal law enforcement agents carried out a raid in the home of Donnie Hyatt and his wife Annemarie in Newton County, Georgia, as part of the ongoing probe into the Capitol insurrection. Hyatt recalled that the raid occurred at seven in the morning last August 10, where the agents took away cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices, including the tablet of their 11-year-old daughter.
Hyatt said that while the agents presented him with a search warrant, they offered very little details and said it was for a sealed investigation. Both Hyatt and his wife were among the supporters of the disgraced former President Donald Trump who attended the rally in DC but did not participate in the insurrection that left five people dead and dozens injured.
The couple has ties to far-right militia leader Chris Hill, who criticized the raid as an overreach of federal authority. Hyatt also believes in the false claim pushed by the former president that election fraud or voter fraud was the cause of his defeat to Joe Biden but has criticized the insurrectionists for carrying out the riots on that day last January 6.
Despite the couple having a close relationship with Hill, Hyatt has denied that they are members of the militia group that Hill is part of.
Previously, actor Rob Reiner called for the House Select Committee to obtain call logs in the White House from that day. Reiner noted that the logs will be able to reveal and solidify the former president’s involvement in inciting the insurrection.
“Not even arguable. Jan6 committee must get WH call logs. The picture will come into sharp focus and clearly show that Donald Trump is 100% responsible for orchestrating a deadly attack to overthrow the Government. And must be indicted,” tweeted Reiner.
This follows the reports revealing that acting DOJ Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen testified before the Senate regarding the efforts that Trump was taking to remain in power.
