The January 6 insurrection was caused by a pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol in the hopes of derailing Congress’ formal certification of Joe Biden’s victory. Among the hundreds of rioters that were arrested, a New York state government employee who threatened the lives of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and other top Democrats could face testimony at the Capitol.
Prosecutors revealed that Brendan Hunt, a white supremacist that took part in the insurrection, could face testimony by the Capitol Police and the House Sergeant-at-Arms. Hunt, a New York state government employee, was charged with threatening the executions of Democratic leadership including Pelosi and Schumer, as well as other top Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Hunt was seen in court documents and his website constantly touting racist and anti-semitic rhetoric. Hunt has also been allegedly calling for members of the Democratic party to be placed in front of a firing squad, especially those who are part of religious and ethnic minorities. Prosecutors cited more of Hunt’s rants against Democrats in a legal brief including his beliefs on immigrants and the United States.
“Trump, we want actual revenge on the Democrats,” said Hunt in one Facebook post. “Meaning, we want you to hold a public execution of pelosi aoc schumer etc. And if you don’t do it, the citizenry will. We’re not voting in another rigged election. Start up the firing squads, mow down these commies, and let’s take america back!”
In a text message dated November 5, Hunt said that earlier generations were justified in their views on immigrants. Hunt cited groups like mafias that were established by Jewish, Italian, and Irish communities in the country as proof.
In other news, Pelosi maintained that the Biden administration is already working on solving the crisis at the southern border. Speaking at an event in California, Pelosi praised Joe Biden’s leadership, even as the country is currently experiencing a spike in border crossings deemed the highest in 15 years. March alone saw over 18,000 unaccompanied migrant children looking to cross the border to the US and taken to cramped shelters.
