The year 2020 is going to be a big one for Melania Trump and Donald Trump as the latter faces another campaign for his re-election bid as polls are set on Nov. 3. Anyone who has been following reports about the relationship of the first couple is likely aware that the results of the 2020 Presidential election are also linked to the long-running rumor about their marriage.
Melania Trump, Donald Trump divorce rumors: Do they need to win the re-election to stay together?
Melania Trump and Donald Trump’s marriage has been put under a microscope, especially when they started living in the White House in 2017. Since then, there have been several books written about them by people who have worked for or have been covering the first couple. It was not surprising that their marriage is a recurring topic in a way that, more often than not, further stirs the public's perception that the Trumps' union is headed to divorce.
Omarosa Manigault Newman’s 2018 book “Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House” discussed the relationship of Melania Trump and Donald Trump. In an excerpt shared by PEOPLE, Manigault Newman suggested that the first lady is only waiting until her husband’s term is over so she could file for divorce.
Manigault Newman has been associated with the President for a long time before he became president. She starred in Donald Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” and was appointed as Director of Communication for the Office of Public Liaison from 2017 to 2018.
The former Trump political aide doubled down on her claims saying Melania Trump is likely feeling obliged to stay married with the real estate mogul because he allegedly pulled strings for her citizenship. “Since Donald is fully aware of however she acquired her permanent citizenship, he could, if there were anything fishy around it, expose the methods and somehow invalidate it,” Manigault Newman wrote.
Melania Trump, Donald Trump reacts to speculations about their marriage
Melania Trump and Donald Trump rarely respond to every divorce rumor that comes their way, especially since becoming America’s first couple. But in an exclusive interview with ABC News, the first lady briefly shut down the speculations.
When asked about her marriage, she said, “Yes, we are fine.” Donald Trump, on the other hand, did not mince words when reacting to Manigault Newman’s book telling reporters that his former political aide is a “lowlife.”
