The race for the presidency remains as many votes in several states are still being counted in favor of either Joe Biden or Donald Trump. As more and more results come in from states with electoral votes to cast, the Democratic nominee has urged Americans to be patient in waiting for the results.
Speaking to his supporters in Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, Biden not only urged them to be patient in waiting for the results of the votes while also expressing optimism in a victory. The former vice president mentioned several battleground states that he feels optimistic about winning over in the elections including states like Minnesota.
“I’m optimistic about this outcome,” said Biden. “We’re confident about Arizona.” The Democratic candidate also noted his optimism in the results that would come from Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Biden also said that he is optimistic about the results from Pennsylvania, a key state he needs to gain the electoral votes needed to win the presidency over Trump.
There are still millions of both legal absentee and mail-in ballots that have yet to be counted, especially in Pennsylvania, where the results have yet to be released. Biden told his supporters that the counting will take a while due to the millions of ballots that have been cast and assured them that every legitimate vote will count in the results.
By midnight on Wednesday, Biden is projected by NBC News to receive 201 electoral votes while Trump trails behind at 171. As Biden spoke to his followers, Trump had accused the Democrats of “stealing” the election, while continuously casting doubt on the process.
Just as Biden had predicted, Arizona turned Blue by Wednesday and Wisconsin voted in his favor. The former vice president also gained a lead in Michigan and slowly narrowed the lead Trump had over him in Georgia, making the race between them in the state tighten. However, Trump demanded that the votes in Wisconsin be recounted.
Even as Biden won over Arizona, the former vice president could still potentially lose Michigan and Pennsylvania, where counting of votes is expected to take days. Nevertheless, the Democratic candidate won Wisconsin over by one percentage point, gaining 10 electoral votes.
