One of the issues that have sent the Democrats into an uproar, including officials who were under the Obama administration was that the Department of Justice decided to drop the charges against Michael Flynn. Recently, former vice president Joe Biden revealed that he was aware of the FBI’s intent to investigate Flynn.
Biden revealed Tuesday that during his time as vice president under the Obama administration, he was aware of the FBI’s intent to investigate Flynn in early 2017 when President Donald Trump took office. The former vice president then noted that it was all he knew regarding the plan for Flynn. Biden then said that President Donald Trump’s sudden focus on Flynn’s case is a ploy to divert Americans’ attention from his administration’s highly-criticized response to the pandemic.
The former vice president’s revelation about the plan to investigate Flynn came after he initially denied any knowledge. But host George Stephanopoulos pressed Biden, saying that as he was vice president, he was present during the meeting where intelligence officials discussed Flynn and his phone calls to the Russian ambassador to the US Sergei Kislyak.
Trump went on a Twitter rant regarding Flynn’s case, accusing his predecessor Barack Obama of crimes linked to the case that he described as worse than the Watergate scandal to which he dubbed Obamagate. Despite pleading guilty under oath twice, Flynn’s charges were dropped by Attorney General William Barr, thus causing confusion and suspicion.
Nevertheless, Biden continued to criticize Trump for failing to focus on the more important issues such as public health and safety in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The national lockdown has since lifted yet many states are still being cautious in terms of reopening.
The pandemic has caused over 1,300,000 cases in the United States with the death toll reaching over 82,000. It has also forced the economy into a shutdown, and lawmakers in the House and Senate have since scrambled to draft a stimulus package. The New York Post reveals that Biden has pledged to investigate the Trump administration’s coronavirus stimulus loan program should he win the November elections.
Biden explained that he would appoint an inspector general on his first day in office to review every single stimulus loan that was given to big companies and political insiders, alluding to the Paycheck Protection Program and other similar efforts.
