Sony reportedly blocks PS Plus stacking as PlayStation fans are unable to redeem subscription codes

Several PlayStation fans took to various online platforms with their complaints about issues in redeeming their prepaid PS Plus and PS Now subscription codes. It appears that Sony has blocked the option to stack or extend subscriptions as the company prepares for the launch of the expanded PS Plus.

Various PlayStation players shared their conversations with customer support that seem to confirm they cannot redeem PS Plus subscription codes that they already purchased to extend their membership. Some ResetEra users (via VGC) shared responses from PlayStation that confirmed it is currently not possible to redeem those codes.

In one post, a PlayStation chat support team member reportedly said, “Due to the upcoming changes in the PS plus subscription, currently the PS Plus stacking is not available as we have removed the ability to do that.” In the same conversation, the company confirmed membership extension and stacking are no longer available options for existing PS Plus and PS Now members.

Another ResetEra user was told to wait as there is no information yet on when they can redeem their purchased subscription codes. A Twitter user mentioned the official @AskPlayStation page to report the same issue, saying they cannot activate two prepaid 12-month PS Plus membership cards.

These reports come weeks after loyal PlayStation fans may have found a way to get the highest tier of the new PS Plus at a lower cost. The expanded PS Plus offers three membership tiers, namely PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Sony confirmed that existing PS Plus members would see no difference, and their subscriptions are expected to be automatically converted to PS Plus Essential. However, current PS Now memberships ($9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly) will be converted into the PS Plus Premium, which costs higher at $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly, at no additional cost.

A week after the expanded PS Plus announcement, fans found a loophole using an active link via Wario64 that allowed them to purchase and stack years of PS Now subscription that would translate to sizable savings once the new Premium tier goes live. But the link that allowed gamers to stack PS Now memberships quickly became unavailable as well.
