Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has commended U.S. President Donald Trump for urging a shortened deadline to achieve progress in ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. In a post on X, Zelenskiy called Trump’s position “clear” and “right on time,” emphasizing the need for decisive action to secure “real peace.”
“I thank President Trump for his focus on saving lives and stopping this horrible war,” Zelenskiy said. His remarks followed Trump’s recent statement advocating accelerated efforts to resolve the conflict.
In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy described Trump’s stance as “particularly significant,” especially as Russia intensifies air strikes on Ukrainian cities. The Ukrainian leader stressed that tough sanctions remain a crucial tool in pressuring Moscow to halt its aggression. “Russia pays attention to sanctions, pays attention to such losses,” he said, reaffirming Ukraine’s readiness to work closely with the United States toward a dignified and lasting peace agreement.
The meeting between Trump and Zelenskiy at the NATO summit in The Hague last month underscored strengthening U.S.-Ukraine ties amid ongoing hostilities. As Ukraine continues to defend against relentless Russian attacks, the call for intensified sanctions and expedited diplomatic efforts signals a potential shift in momentum toward conflict resolution.
The war, now in its third year, has devastated Ukrainian infrastructure and displaced millions. Zelenskiy’s praise for Trump’s “expressed determination” highlights renewed hopes for international cooperation to end the conflict and stabilize the region.
With Washington’s involvement and increasing global support, Ukraine seeks a peace framework that ensures security, territorial integrity, and accountability for Russian actions. The coming months will be critical in determining whether diplomatic pressure can translate into meaningful progress toward ending the war.
