Professor of Professional Practice, University of Westminster
Jim is a highly experienced economist specialising in spatial economic development and urban regeneration. He has expertise in a wide range of fields including local/regional economic competitiveness, labour markets and skills development, business and sector development, industrial strategy, inward investment, business modelling, poverty alleviation and social enterprise. Key areas of his work involve economic strategy development and implementation planning, economic visioning, economic programme design and evaluation and area based economic assessment.
He has extensive experience in the UK and internationally including in China, Russia and the Middle East. Jim previously headed up the London office of Regeneris Consulting and also spent time with EDAW- AECOM and DTZ. He started his career as an academic in the Economics Department of Durham University.
Jim is also a Professor of Professional Practice in the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, University of Westminster and is an honorary senior research associate at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London. He has acted as an expert adviser to various organisations including the UK Town and Country Planning Association and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
