Pinterest Inc. (NYSE: PINS) shares fell sharply in after-hours trading on Friday after the social media company announced the resignation of Chief Financial Officer Julia Brau Donnelly, prompting investor attention on the upcoming leadership transition.
Pinterest stock dropped as much as 3.8% following the announcement. According to an 8-K regulatory filing, Donnelly submitted her resignation on Wednesday and plans to leave the company to pursue another opportunity.
Donnelly will remain with Pinterest through October 30, 2026, helping ensure an orderly transition before her departure. Pinterest emphasized that the CFO's resignation was not related to any disagreement involving the company's operations, policies, accounting principles, practices or other corporate matters.
As part of its succession plan, Pinterest has appointed Vikram Naidu, 40, as interim Principal Financial Officer, effective October 30. Naidu will take on the additional responsibilities while continuing to serve as Pinterest's Vice President of Finance and Business Operations.
Naidu has held his current position since March 2024 and oversees Pinterest's Finance and Business Operations organization, including enterprise-wide financial planning and analysis. His existing familiarity with the company's financial operations could provide continuity as Pinterest searches for a permanent CFO.
The company said it has already launched an external search to identify Donnelly's successor.
Before joining Pinterest, Naidu served as Vice President of Finance at security technology company Verkada Inc. from January 2023 until March 2024. He also brings extensive experience from ride-hailing company Lyft Inc., where he held several increasingly senior financial positions between 2015 and 2022.
At Lyft, Naidu served as Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis from 2019 to 2021 before becoming Vice President of Finance from 2021 to 2022.
The after-hours decline in Pinterest shares suggests investors are closely watching the unexpected CFO transition. Attention will now turn to the company's search for a permanent finance chief and whether the leadership change has any broader implications for Pinterest's financial strategy and future growth plans.
