FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 13, 2017 -- TÜV Rheinland, a leading international testing service provider for quality and safety, today announced the Thread Group (“Thread”) has selected the firm as an official Authorized Testing Lab for network layer solutions in the smart home and beyond. Under terms of the agreement, Thread will use TÜV Rheinland’s IoT testing facilities to test and certify products in Silicon Valley (Pleasanton and Fremont, Calif.), Europe (Cologne, Germany), and several locations across Asia (Seoul, South Korea; Yokohama, Japan; Taipei, Taiwan; and Shenzhen, China).

Thread is an IP-based mesh network that efficiently addresses the networking layer – the routing, commissioning, and security elements – so that hundreds of connected products have a way to speak to one another and to the internet while maintaining data security and integrity. Thread offers several technological advantages over other wireless standards in that it contains no single point of failure, provides connectivity that’s easy to setup and use, and consumes minimal power. Battery-operated devices can be installed and operate reliably over long periods of time, which is a critical feature for many use cases.
