Air New Zealand’s wide-body cabin crew will go on strike on February 12 and February 13 after contract negotiations failed to address workers’ concerns, according to New Zealand-based trade union E tū. The planned industrial action is expected to disrupt international flights and impact thousands of passengers traveling on long-haul routes.

E tū confirmed on Wednesday that talks between the airline and its wide-body cabin crew members did not result in an agreement. The union represents flight attendants who operate on Air New Zealand’s long-haul services, including routes across Asia, North America, and the Pacific. Workers are seeking improved pay, better working conditions, and greater job security as part of ongoing collective bargaining negotiations.

The strike action will take place over two days, raising concerns about potential flight delays and cancellations. Travelers with bookings on international routes during the strike period are advised to monitor their flight status and stay in contact with Air New Zealand for updates. The airline is expected to implement contingency plans to minimize disruptions, but some schedule changes may be unavoidable.

Industrial action by cabin crew can significantly affect airline operations, particularly on wide-body aircraft used for long-haul travel. Aviation analysts note that staffing shortages and unresolved labor disputes have placed increasing pressure on global airlines in recent years.

Air New Zealand has not yet confirmed the full extent of potential service disruptions but said it remains committed to reaching a fair resolution. Meanwhile, E tū maintains that strike action became necessary after negotiations stalled.

Passengers planning to travel on February 12 and 13 should check for travel advisories and consider flexible arrangements where possible. Further updates are expected as discussions between Air New Zealand and the union continue.
