Tech fans in several markets where the POCO brand was launched have been demanding updates about its next smartphone offering that has been widely dubbed as Pocophone F2. Xiaomi, the parent company of POCO, has been silent about its plans. But a recently discovered file is renewing hopes for the smartphone’s imminent announcement.
Pocophone F2, release date announcement, slated before 2019 ends?
Xiaomi has gained certification from the Chinese government for purportedly upcoming devices. There are no specific indications that the product on paper is Pocophone F2. Also, there are varying opinions on whether or not the certification pertains to the Pocophone F2 or another Xiaomi smartphone.
Unfortunately, the document does not bear any very telling details to confirm it is for the Pocophone F2. It only shows that the mystery smartphone series will have devices with model numbers M1912G7BE and M1912G8BC.
Some suggest that the document could be meant for the K30 series, instead of the Pocophone F2. However, DroidShout previously reported on another certification for a device with model number M1911U2E is more likely pertaining to the K30 because it is indicated to support 5G -- a feature that has long been anticipated on K30.
With that, Notebook Check floated the possibility that these model numbers could be for the variants of Pocophone F2.
While tech fans will have to take this information with a grain of salt, it should be noted that this is not the only supposed leak hinting at a Pocophone F2 announcement. Earlier this month, popular phone case maker Spigen reportedly listed a product labeled for Pocophone F2 that looks very similar to the K20. Screenshots of the phone case on the Spigen website were taken, but the product listing has apparently been taken down as of this writing.
Pocophone F2 specs rumors: What to expect
There is one obvious reason why Pocophone F2’s predecessor was a huge success last year. It was sold on a very budget-friendly price of around $300, but it sported the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip.
Smartphones with the most advanced mobile CPUs can now go for as much as $1,000. And the possibility of having a device with Snapdragon 855 (or even 855+) for under $400 is what keeps the interest on Pocophone F2 alive.
