SAN DIEGO and LONDON, April 11, 2017 -- Mitek (NASDAQ:MITK) (www.miteksystems.com), a global leader in mobile capture and identity verification software solutions, today announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 14,722,058, “Identification verification using a device with embedded radio-frequency identification functionality” by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mitek now has 29 patents issued and 16 patents pending.
“This latest patent covers the ability to use both the mobile device’s RFID reader and camera for document verification,” said Stephen Ritter, Chief Technology Officer, Mitek. “By combining RFID and optical character recognition, we are able to verify that the printed information on the ID matches the data encoded in the ID’s embedded RFID chip, increasing confidence that the identity document is authentic.”
“As transactions increasingly move to digital channels, businesses need easy yet secure ways to verify individuals’ identities, especially when they are not face-to-face,” said James DeBello, Chairman and CEO, Mitek. “This newly patented process is one more example of how Mitek maintains its leadership as a key innovator in mobile ID verification.”
