An overnight Russian drone strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa injured at least 10 people, including two children, according to Ukrainian officials on Monday. The attack caused significant damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, raising ongoing concerns about civilian safety amid the prolonged conflict.
Authorities confirmed that the central Prymorskyi district suffered the most severe destruction. Multiple residential buildings, a hotel, and facilities in the city center were hit during the strike. Serhiy Lysak, head of the local military administration, stated via Telegram that most of the injured individuals were located in this district.
Emergency responders worked through the night to assist victims and assess the damage. Lysak described the situation as “extremely difficult,” adding that additional districts were also affected. High-rise apartments, private homes, and vehicles were damaged in at least two other parts of Odesa, showing the widespread impact of the drone attack.
Odesa, a key Black Sea port, remains a strategic target due to its role in Ukraine’s export economy, particularly grain shipments. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, the city has faced repeated missile and drone attacks aimed at weakening infrastructure and disrupting trade.
The latest strike highlights the continued threat posed by aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities. Civilian areas remain vulnerable, and incidents like this underscore the urgent need for stronger air defense systems and international support.
As the war enters another year, ongoing attacks on cities like Odesa continue to disrupt daily life, damage critical infrastructure, and place innocent civilians at risk.
