The anime series is currently narrating what is happening during the six months that the Clover Kingdom Magic Knights is spending to train for their next big mission. Titled “A Witch’s Homecoming,” “Black Clover” episode 139 is expected to revolve around Vanessa’s return to the Witches’ Forest that should lead to a challenge she has to overcome just like what her squadmates have gone through in the previous episodes. Vanessa’s return in her homeland should be interesting especially considering the dark past she had to endure at the hands of her mother, the Witch Queen.
The brief “Black Clover” episode 139 video preview suggests Vanessa will have to neutralize a monster plaguing the forest. The teaser also shows a glimpse of Vanessa’s reunion with her mother. These women’s history is not the best mother-daughter story there is. It can be recalled that the Witch Queen locked up Vanessa in a cage after realizing the potential of her Thread Magic abilities. They even fought in an earlier story arc, which Vanessa had won, which also led to somewhat fixing their very complicated relationship.
Captain Yami also appears in several scenes in the “Black Clover” episode 139 preview suggesting that he might have something to do with sending Vanessa back to the Witches’ Forest. Yami played a huge role in Vanessa’s freedom after he accidentally found her caged before she became a Black Bull. Meanwhile, the threat in episode 139 does not seem too serious, but it should still be a good chance for fans to see Vanessa’s powers in action.

“Black Clover” episode 139 is not exactly a filler because it happens in the timeline that is canon to the original plot. As mentioned, it is showing fans what happened during six months that the Clover and Heart Kingdoms prepared before attacking the devil hiding in the Spade Kingdom.
