Apple Music Is Growing Fast, 40 Million Paid Subscribers And Counting

It looks like Apple is well on its way to becoming a content giant as much as it is a hardware behemoth. With over 40 million subscribers to its Apple Music streaming service, it’s already eclipsed Spotify in the US market. With the company setting its eyes on the global stage, its subscriber count is bound to go up significantly. Unfortunately, the HomePod smart speakers aren’t doing that well.

As The Motley Fool notes, Apple Music is now halfway to where Spotify is in terms of its total paid subscriber count, which is at about 76 million right now. This is despite the fact that the music streaming service by the Cupertino firm has only been out for a few years.

What’s more, the growth of the service is only accelerating and with the prospect of the platform going global in a more aggressive manner, there’s likely to be even bigger events to occur with regards to this matter. In comparison, Spotify’s growth isn’t exactly all that stellar despite the fact that its IPO was relatively successful. That has been attributed to the upward trend of music streaming as an industry more than any specific service provider.

As SlashGear notes, the general consensus within the market right now is that Apple Music will overtake Spotify at some point in the near future. On the other hand, not all of the company’s music streaming endeavors have been fruitful.

On the hardware front, the HomePod has been the subject of ridicule in practically every major market. Its price tag is a considerable target for criticism at $349, which is severely overpriced even by Apple’s standards. This is despite the fact that Siri is extremely limited in terms of what it can do. As with any of the company’s other products, however, the audio quality is stellar.
