Felicity Roux is a researcher at Curtin University who developed and trial an ovulatory menstrual health literacy program called "My Vital Cycles". The program’s Whole Person approach recognises that biologically the cycle is the “5th Vital Sign” (according to the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists) which also extends into the emotional, social and meaning-making dimensions of human being. The program portrays the cycle positively whilst addressing challenges such as pain, irregular periods and heavy bleeding. The research demonstrated how the World Health Organization's "Health Promoting School" framework is best practice for schools to deliver ovulatory menstrual health education. This framework ensures that formal curriculum teaching is supported through the school's parent-body, their own healthcare professionals and engagement with healthcare providers in the community. Together these elements work in educating tomorrow's women today.
