Wendy’s is debuting its upgraded french fries that will never go soggy. The fast-food chain said its new fries will stay hot and crispy as they were fried using a new technique and recipe.
Wendy’s announced it has found a solution to prevent french fries from turning soggy in just a short time. After the makeover, the company said that the new fries can retain heat and are able to keep crispiness longer compared to the old french fries.
It was explained that the way the fries are cooked was changed as people shift to delivery and drive-thrus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that since people cannot have their meals the moment they come out of the kitchen, Wendy’s looked for a way for the fries to stay crispy for a longer time so that customers will enjoy them more.
The newly improved fry will be available in all Wendy’s restaurant outlets in the U.S. customers can purchase their favorite menu item starting mid-September. The look of the french fries will be similar to the previous one, but the flavor will be different.
"They're going to notice a difference as soon as they taste it," Kurt Kane, Wendy's president, told CNN Business via an interview. "The proof will be in the tasting. What we did was balance the cut of the fry and kept a little bit of the skin of the potato on the fry to be able to drive flavor then we used a batter system that allows us to be able to maintain crispiness, both when they're fresh and hot out of the fryer as well as several minutes later."
Kane added that Wendy’s french fries are improved as they are now using new fry baskets that are shorter. He said that this helps the fries to be fully submerged in oil to achieve perfect crispiness.
What’s more, it was reported that the restaurant actually spent four years on research to upgrade and improve the french fries. It was shared that the company considered around 20 options before finally choosing one that is fairly consistent in shape and size of typical Wendy’s fries that customers have known for decades.
Finally, USA Today reported that the new Wendy’s fries are being promoted as the "Hot & Crispy Fries.'' It will be rolled out along with the burger joint’s new Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger that will feature a sandwich filled with beef patty, crispy onions, bacon, bacon sauce, cheese sauce, and American cheese.
