Melania Trump just canceled a fundraiser event in California which was scheduled next week. The White House officially confirmed the cancellation and said it was due to a scheduling conflict but some Twitter users are not convinced with the official explanation given.
The confirmation was given by White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, according to Politico. In a text message, Grisham said that First Lady Melania Trump would no longer be holding the Beverly Hills fundraiser, which was previously scheduled March 18. Grisham also said that the decision to cancel the event was due to a “scheduling conflict.”
The FLOTUS’ decision to cancel the event comes as people are becoming increasingly concerned about the coronavirus’ spread in the U.S. Los Angeles County, for instance, has already declared a state of emergency because of the outbreak. The canceled event, which was supposed to be Melania’s first fundraiser, would have been held in L.A.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Arizona Representative Paul Gosar recently announced that they will self-quarantine themselves. The two politicians attended the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland last month and came into contact with a person later confirmed to be positive for coronavirus.
President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were also in the same event. Organizers said that they did not come into direct contact with the infected person.
However, some Twitter users were not convinced that the reason for the cancellation is due to a “scheduling conflict” as mentioned by Grisham. Many believe that the spread of the coronavirus is likely the real reason.
“@Flotus is lying...heaven forbid she come to California...hope her husband runs scared as well,” one Twitter user wrote, as reported by Express.
Some did not buy into the official reason given for the cancellation. “’Scheduling conflict’ - RRRRRight!” one user said.
”@FLOTUS probably isn't going to California because like rest of us she can't trust @POTUS to make virus test available,” Karen wrote on the social media platform.
Some pointed out the irony if the FLOTUS is scare of the virus while President Trump has been giving assurances that Americans are safe. “Coronavirus scared her too. Her husband says we are safe,” another user posted.
