Russian attacks across southeastern and northeastern Ukraine killed at least four people and left dozens injured on Sunday, according to regional officials, as fighting between Kyiv and Moscow continued with no sign of easing.
In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, two people were killed and 16 others were injured after Russian strikes hit residential areas, Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said in a post on Telegram. Images shared by the governor showed a large fire consuming a building while nearby homes and infrastructure were heavily damaged, leaving parts of the neighborhood in ruins.
Emergency responders were deployed to the affected areas to assist victims and assess the extent of the destruction. Local authorities continue to evaluate damage caused by the latest wave of attacks.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, another Russian missile strike targeted the town of Zmiiv. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that one person was killed and eight others were injured, including two children. Medical teams responded quickly as emergency services worked to rescue civilians and secure the area.
The violence extended further across the Kharkiv region, where local police confirmed that an officer was killed while helping organize the evacuation of residents from a northern community located closer to the Russian border. Officials said evacuation efforts remain ongoing as authorities attempt to move civilians away from frontline areas facing continued attacks.
Reuters said it could not independently verify the reports released by Ukrainian officials. Russia has not commented on the specific incidents.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, now in its fifth year, continues to bring heavy casualties and widespread destruction across multiple regions. Both Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly denied intentionally targeting civilians, even as missile and drone strikes continue to hit populated areas, resulting in civilian deaths, injuries, and significant damage to homes and public infrastructure.
