President Donald Trump said Sunday he had spoken with FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino to address tensions surrounding the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed Bongino remains in his position, saying, “I spoke to him today… Dan Bongino, very good guy. I’ve known him a long time. He sounded terrific.”
The conversation comes amid backlash from conservative circles over the DOJ and FBI’s recent memo that dismissed conspiracy theories regarding Epstein’s 2019 death, which was ruled a suicide. Bongino, a former conservative podcaster and long-time Trump ally, has reportedly disagreed with Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel over the findings, fueling speculation about his potential resignation.
Critics, including prominent figures like Elon Musk and Laura Loomer, have voiced frustration over the lack of new disclosures—particularly the absence of names and flight logs once promised by Bondi. These expectations stemmed from earlier claims by Bondi that significant revelations about Epstein’s alleged client list were forthcoming.
Bongino represents a vocal segment of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” base that remains skeptical of the official Epstein narrative. Both Bongino and Patel previously made public statements suggesting the government was withholding key details from the American public.
While Fox News and NBC News have reported internal clashes between Bongino and Bondi, Trump’s reassurance may signal an attempt to stabilize leadership within the FBI during an increasingly contentious time. The political fallout over Epstein’s case continues to stir conspiracy theories and challenge public trust in law enforcement transparency.
