Republican U.S. Representative Troy Nehls announced that he will not run for another term in Congress, saying he plans to step back from political life and devote more time to his family. Nehls, who represents a Texas district and was first elected in 2020, shared that the decision came after heartfelt conversations with his wife and daughters over the Thanksgiving holiday.
In his public statement, the 57-year-old congressman emphasized that returning home after the current congressional term felt like the right choice for him and his family. Before finalizing his decision, Nehls said he spoke directly with former President Donald Trump, a key figure in Republican politics and someone Nehls has strongly supported during his time in office.
Shortly after announcing his departure from the House of Representatives, Nehls took to Facebook to endorse his twin brother, Trever Nehls, as his preferred successor. He expressed strong confidence that Trever would continue the conservative leadership he championed while in office. Nehls also suggested that Trever is likely to win Trump’s endorsement, reinforcing the family’s close alignment with the former president and the broader MAGA movement.
Nehls' decision not only opens up a competitive congressional seat in Texas but also adds a unique dynamic to the race with the endorsement of a sibling poised to continue his political legacy. As the election season approaches, the shift could reshape Republican strategies in the district and draw significant attention from voters aligned with Trump and conservative values.
The announcement marks a notable moment in Texas politics, highlighting both a personal transition for Troy Nehls and a potential new chapter for his brother as the GOP prepares for another high-stakes election cycle.
