As the wife of former president Barack Obama, people have always looked up to and respected Michelle Obama. But even a change in administration has not diminished Michelle's stellar status as it was her, not Donald Trump’s wife Melania, who was named the 2019’s Most Desirable Woman in Gallup's most recent annual poll.
Michelle Obama bested other well-known and powerful female personalities to bag the top spot and earn the title as Gallup’s Most Admired Woman in 2019, Hollywood Life reported. Ten percent of the poll’s respondents voted for Obama while only five percent voted for Melania Trump, who came in second.
Following Obama and Trump are three ladies who got an equal number of votes. Tied at the third spot are talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who is also a former FLOTUS, and teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. All three got three percent each.
The other ladies greatly admired by voters include the British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who was recently seen in the headlines in connection with Donald Trump’s impeachment, Senator Elizabeth Warren, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley. The poll ran from December 2 to 15 last year.
Michelle Obama also bagged the top spot as the Most Admired Woman in another poll conducted in July 2019 by YouGov. In that survey, Obama edged out other famous names that included Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Queen Elizabeth II, and Oprah Winfrey.
Michelle became the sixth First Lady to win the top spot in the long-running annual poll by Gallup. The other former First Ladies who won the poll are Eleanor Roosevelt (1948-1950 and 1952-1961), Jacqueline Kennedy (1963-1966), Mamie Eisenhower (1969-1970), Betty Ford (1978), and Clinton (2002-2017).
There is also a male category in the Gallup poll. The Most Admired Man of 2019 is a tie between former president Barack Obama and the current president Donald Trump with both men getting 18 percent of the votes each, according to Refinery29.
This would be Barack Obama’s 12th time to earn the distinction. He also won the top spot in 2018’s poll with 19 percent of the respondents voting for him. In that poll, Donald Trump came in second with 13 percent.
