Nike to Release Kobe 5 Protro University Red in Spring 2025, Honoring the Black Mamba in the Year of the Snake
In a recent report by Sports Illustrated, the Nike Kobe shoe line has been a success since the wife of the late great Kobe Bryant, Vanessa Bryant. Nike has consistently reintroduced it with multiple releases after resolving to continue the sneaker line. The Kobes have been exceedingly popular, and a new shoe version is imminently scheduled for release.
The Nike Kobe 5 Protro University Red, a new pair of Nikes designed by Kobe Bryant, is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2025.
The sale design of this special sneaker edition will honor Kobe's moniker, "Black Mamba." The shoe's release will correspond with the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac.
The shoe's theme perfectly harmonizes with Kobe's “Black Mamba” persona, commemorating the tenacity, dedication, and relentlessness he exhibited on the court and his storytelling skills before his untimely departure in January 2020.
The shoe's hue will be Univerity Red/Black-Metallic Gold. It will be priced at $190 for men and $120 for primary school students. In addition, Nike will issue these shoes to select retailers online and in-store.
The Kobe 5 Protro will be presented in distinctive packaging in honor of the Year of the Snake. The shoe will be highly sought after, so be prepared to fight tooth and nail to purchase a pair.
Nike Unveils Kobe 8 Proto Halo in Triple-White, Honoring Kobe Bryant's Legacy on His Birthday
Nike has unveiled the latest addition to its Kobe 8 collection: the Proto in Halo colorway, which features a triple-white color scheme. Vanessa, Kobe Bryant's wife, collaborated with the brand to conceptualize and execute the Halo shoe in honor of the basketball superstar on his birthday, August 23.
Although it is evident that the Proto Halo is part of the Kobe 8 collection, it also boasts a variety of design details and updates. For instance, the shoe's upper is adorned with an embroidered Swoosh, while the tongue is decorated with an embroidered Mamba.
The shoe also features Nike React Foam, an upgrade from the Lunarlon midsole used in previous iterations, designed to enhance performance. The React Foam is designed to improve durability and provide comfort and responsiveness. The shoe's sole also features a herringbone traction pattern that provides a robust grip, essential for making rapid movements on the court.
In addition to the Kobe 8 Proto Halo's birthday release, a two-day basketball tournament for juvenile players in Los Angeles will commemorate Kobe and his legacy. The Mamba League, a foundation overseen by the Bryant family, is inviting eight teams of secondary school players—both men's and women's—to participate in the competition.
The Nike Kobe 8 Proto Halo will be available on SNKRS and at select global retailers on August 23.
