The Switch Lite is now available, and the reviews surrounding the device are generally positive. However, this could all turn to a complete 180 if the Joy-Con-drift issue proliferates.
The problem has been present in the original Switch, which is still a massive source of frustration for anyone who’s been affected by it. And now, reports are already coming in that that the Switch Lite is also experiencing the same thing.
Reddit user GloriousDump posted a video on Youtube showcasing the issue, and the Nintendo Switch community is shaking its heads that the problem has already surfaced this early on. For anyone who isn’t aware, the drifting issue is where a camera pans out independently even though the user isn’t touching the stick. This is bad news for the Switch Lite since this problem would usually rear its ugly head months or years down the line as a sign of wear.
Switch Lite issue could be bad news for its sales performance
With the issue showing up this early, a lot of people are going to question the quality of the console. Indeed, other Reddit users have already expressed their reluctance in buying the Switch Lite, which is understandable since it would be wise to see if this is only an isolated case or if it’s widespread.
Sure, Nintendo is offering a free repair for the stick, but that’s only in the United States. Other areas aren’t so lucky. What’s more, repairing the Switch Lite would require you to ship the entire unit since the stick is part of the console itself. That could take weeks on the user’s end, something that a lot of people aren’t willing to deal with.
Switch Lite can still escape this one if it’s an isolated case
So far, Nintendo has yet to comment on the issue. There are also no other Switch Lite users that have added their voice to the aforementioned complainant, so as of this writing, this could still be considered as an isolated case.
But that doesn’t mean users are willing to roll the dice on this one. As such, the drifting issue could heavily affect the sales performance of the Switch Lite. And that’s not even considering the other inadequacies that the portable console has, minor though they may be.
