Joe Biden: Jill Biden makes her emotional case for husband in DNC address

NBC News / Youtube

Former vice president Joe Biden is officially the Democratic party’s nominee for president, following the roll call of states who have placed him and Senator Kamala Harris on the ticket to win the November elections. On the second night of the Democratic convention, former second lady Jill Biden now made her case for her husband in a very personal address.

Dr. Biden was among the top Democrats who would be speaking at the Democratic convention this week, and she delivered her address from an empty classroom of Brandywine High School in Delaware, where she used to teach. Speaking as a potential first lady, Dr. Biden’s address to the party was an emotional one, citing the former vice president’s personal struggles with grief and loss.

“How do you make a broken family whole? The same way you make a nation whole: With love and understanding and small acts of kindness. With bravery, with unwavering faith. We show up for each other in big ways and small ones again and again,” said the former second lady.

Jill also noted the concerns of parents about the new school year, especially during a time of COVID-19 that has forced schools to resort to online learning as students take their classes remotely. Dr. Biden also expressed her admiration of her husband and how he was able to cope with these personal losses.

The elections of this year have also brought on a big change compared to the 2016 elections, as while the Democratic party is focused on becoming a united front, many other Republicans have publicly expressed their support for Biden. The latest Republican that has voiced his support for the former vice president is former congressman Charlie Dent.

Dent, a lifelong Republican, wrote a piece for CNN where he details why he is voting for Biden in the upcoming elections. Dent noted that despite knowing that he will disagree with the former vice president on several policies with concerns that the possible Biden administration would turn far-left, he stated that Biden “is a fundamentally decent and honorable man, who respects American tradition, supports the rule of law, embraces America’s friends and allies” who will also be able to restore the functioning government to how it was before Donald Trump.
