Former vice president Joe Biden and his campaign have somewhat ramped up efforts again to encourage people to vote for him. It was recently announced that Biden would be appearing in the upcoming Texas Democrat virtual convention.
Biden will be appearing at the upcoming Texas Democratic Convention, which has since moved online out of concerns of the pandemic. Joining the former vice president would be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. The state’s Democrats are ramping up their efforts in the biggest red state in the country, with their main focus being the House, where they need nine more seats to maintain their majority for the first time in almost 20 years.
The convention will be a week-long event starting Monday, June 1st.
The presumptive Democratic nominee has moved his campaign rallies onto a digital platform since the outbreak of the pandemic. Only recently has he made in-person interviews and appearances following this week when he was spotted with former second lady Jill Biden at the Delaware memorial for Memorial Day, both of whom were wearing face masks.
Meanwhile, one of the tasks Biden and his campaign are working on accomplishing is choosing the woman who would become his vice president. In his interview on Tuesday with CNN, Biden said that he hopes to announce who his vice president would be around August. The former vice president previously stated that he also hopes that the vetting process of potential candidates would be done by July.
Offering more updates on the vetting process, Biden revealed that background checks have not yet begun on his potential candidates, but the panel he placed in charge of running-mate selection has already interviewed many women. During the fundraiser on Wednesday, Biden said that they are already in the process of making the first cuts.
“We’re in the process of deciding the basic cut, about whether or not they really want it. Are they comfortable? They’ve asked a lot of questions,” said the former vice president.
Although many groups have pushed for a woman of color, Biden has not committed to that. He explained that there are women of color who are on his shortlist of potential candidates.
