A confidential FBI security bulletin has warned law enforcement agencies across the United States about the possibility of Iranian-backed drone attacks targeting California. The alert, distributed through the Los Angeles Joint Regional Intelligence Center, warned that Iran may have been planning surprise unmanned aerial vehicle attacks launched from sea vessels off the California coast — specifically in response to any American military strikes against Iran.

The bulletin gained public attention on Wednesday, as a U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran — which began on February 28 with large-scale bombardments — entered its 12th day. The conflict has already claimed the lives of Iran's supreme leader and other senior officials in air strikes, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran against Israel and Gulf states hosting American military personnel. Several U.S. soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike on a base in Kuwait.

According to the unclassified bulletin reviewed by Reuters, FBI intelligence gathered as of early February indicated that Iran "allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles" against California targets if the U.S. launched strikes against the country. Officials noted no confirmed details regarding timing, targets, or specific perpetrators.

Despite the warning, President Donald Trump dismissed concerns about attacks on American soil, telling reporters he was not worried. California Governor Gavin Newsom stated he was unaware of any imminent threats but confirmed the state had elevated its security posture. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also confirmed there was no specific or credible threat to the city at the time.

Meanwhile, the broader conflict continues to shake global markets. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has attempted to disrupt oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, sending fuel prices higher, while fighting has also spread into Lebanon between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.
