The Apple Watch Series 7 could be a vital gadget for smartwatch users with diabetes. The upcoming wearable device is reportedly launching with a new medical monitoring feature later this year.
Apple Watch Series 7 is reportedly launching with a new sensor
The latest Apple Watch models are some of the most advanced of its kind, especially when it comes to sensors that help users monitor different aspects of their health. The support for the ECG app and tracking blood oxygen levels are some of the health-related features offered by Apple’s latest smartwatches.
If the ET News report was accurate, the Apple Watch Series 7 could become even more useful, especially for smartwatch users dealing with diabetes. Apple and Samsung are purportedly planning to introduce a new feature that would utilize optical sensors to monitor the user’s blood sugar level without blood sampling.
The Apple Watch Series 7, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, are both rumored to feature an optical sensor making the non-invasive blood glucose level monitoring possible. As for Apple’s upcoming device, it is worth noting that the company previously had a patent granted that could be related to this technology.
The patent titled “Reference switch architectures for noncontact sensing of substances” was filed in 2016 and was granted to Apple last October. It is described as relating to “systems and methods for measuring a concentration and type of substance in a sample at a sampling interface.”
It should be a massive help to diabetics if the Apple Watch Series 7 or the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 would actually launch with a non-invasive blood glucose level monitoring system. According to Mayo Clinic, people with type 1 diabetes could be recommended by their physicians to check their blood sugar levels four to 10 times every day.
Apple Watch Series 7 release date likely in fall 2021
It is worth noting that Apple does not hesitate to delay an important feature due to its high standards for its new hardware products. So even if it is true that a blood sugar level monitoring system is in the works, its launch through the Apple Watch Series 7 is not guaranteed until Apple officially makes the announcement.
Apple fans will have to wait until fall to see if this report becomes a reality. Since 2016, a new generation of Apple Watch has been unveiled in September every year. The tech giant is likely to maintain that release window for the Apple Watch Series 7 this year.
