After more than a year since the Robert Rodriguez-directed live-action adaptation of the manga series “Gunnm” premiered, fans have heard nothing official about its sequel. That continues to this day, but the rumor mill is giving the Alita Army a glimmer of hope. A recent report claims Disney is “considering” to have “Alita: Battle Angel 2” made.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ likely release date if Disney green-lights the project
The first movie acquired thousands of very passionate fans who have been making sure talks about “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would not completely die down online and offline. Actors and producers of the first movie have also joined the calls for the sequel to be produced, but Disney remains mum about it.
However, a little hope will shine on them following We Got This Covered’s report that Disney is “considering” the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” The publication is confident of the information as it purportedly came from the same sources who were spot on with their tips on the making of a “Percy Jackson” series as well as the making of “Robin Hood” and “Bambi” reboots.
This is generally good news, but it should be noted that Disney “considering” to make “Alita: Battle Angel 2” also means hearing about the sequel’s release date is still a very long shot. If the sequel got the green light this year, fans should be ready to wait for several years before actually seeing it on the screen.
Other questions need to be answered as well. For one, will Disney follow through with the conventional in-movie theater release? Will the studio include the sequel to its Disney+ library instead? There were earlier suggestions that Alita (Rosa Salazar) could also continue her journey in a TV series on the said streaming platform.
Why Disney is making the decisions for ‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’?
Some might be a little confused why the final say now depends on Disney when the first movie had the 20th Century Fox opening sequence at the start if the first film. “Alita: Battle Angel 2” was released worldwide in February 2019. The following month, however, a merger between the 20th Century Fox and Disney was sealed in which the latter acquired the IPs of the former.
