Not all new movie franchises become a massive hit as soon as it premieres on the big screen, and it appears to be the case for “Alita: Battle Angel.” The support for the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is noticeably growing online about a year since it came out in theaters and months since its release on Blu-ray and DVD.

Alita: Battle Angel 2’: Fans will make their demand for a sequel known at the Oscars 2020

It appears that the avid fans of the live-action movie, based on the Japanese "Gunnm," will stop nothing to put their message across. And they found one of the best venues to do it with the awards season in full swing.

"Alita: Battle Angel 2" supporters have put up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a banner with the #AlitaSequel. It is reportedly intended to fly over the Oscars 2020 red carpet on Feb. 9. Organizers of the online fundraising reported that the banner would cost $1,810 – a goal that they reached in less than a day.

The #AlitaSequel banner alone does not guarantee to result in an "Alita: Battle Angel 2" announcement from Disney. It can be recalled, however, that co-producer Jon Landau told CinemaBlend, “What I think the Alita Army should do is keep peppering our family now at Disney and [let them know] how important it is to have another ‘Alita’ movie and hopefully we'll venture there one day.” While the said banner is unlikely the kind of action Landau was referring to, when done right, it might still catch Hollywood’s attention and make the sequel happen.

Alita: Battle Angel 2’ support grows as the movie becomes available in more platforms

Over the previous months, “Alita: Battle Angel” has been released on various cable channels around the world, and this could explain the growing online support for the making of its sequel. A quick search on Twitter will show that very recent posts were made about “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”

Some fans regret they did not catch the first movie when it came out in theaters. Others wonder why the James Cameron-produced film turned out to be one of the “underrated” titles from 2019. But almost everyone who has just recently discovered the movie joins the so-called Alita Army and hopes that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would be confirmed by Disney and 20th Century Fox soon.
