Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into Miss Universe President Raul Rocha over alleged ties to drug trafficking, arms trafficking, and fuel theft, adding fresh controversy to one of the world’s most prominent beauty pageants. Authorities confirmed that 13 arrest warrants were issued as part of the ongoing probe, though no names were officially released. In accordance with Mexican legal protocol, officials referred to Rocha only as “Raul R,” noting that additional information about his legal status will be revealed when appropriate.
Local media outlets, however, reported that one of the warrants targets Rocha, a Mexican businessman who acquired a 50% stake in the Miss Universe organization in 2024 through his company, Legacy Holding Group USA. Neither Rocha nor the Miss Universe organization has responded to requests for comment, including messages sent via Rocha’s Instagram and the pageant’s official website.
The investigation surfaces shortly after Mexican contestant Fatima Bosch won the Miss Universe crown in Thailand on Friday, marking a significant victory for the country. Bosch previously made headlines during the pageant when she led a walk-out, accusing pageant director Nawat Itsaragrisil of calling her a “dumbhead.” Itsaragrisil denied using the insult, claiming his remarks were misinterpreted. Bosch’s stance earned public praise from Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, who called her a role model for women speaking out against mistreatment.
As scrutiny intensifies around Rocha’s alleged criminal connections, the Miss Universe brand faces renewed questions about leadership, transparency, and the future of the pageant. Observers expect further updates from Mexican authorities as the investigation progresses, potentially reshaping public perception of the global competition and its management.
