The iPhone 13 is already making headlines this week when an alleged mock-up of its design emerged online. It deserves the attention it is getting for one reason – it is not anything that any Apple fan would expect to see on the 2021 series of premium iPhones.
Rumored iPhone 13 design is unlike any Apple fan would expect
Despite how advanced the latest iPhones have become, people will still have a seemingly never-ending list of features, designs, and specs they want on their smartphones. However, the rumored early plans for iPhone 13 may have exceeded any fan’s wish list.
Earlier this week, Mac Otakara (via MacRumors) reported on an alleged early 3D mock-up of the iPhone 13 series. It has stirred some discussions online due to some of its most noticeable features. For one, it sports very thin bezels to the point of not having a display notch.
It is not showing any hole punch either, but the same report suggested that Apple could use an in-display sensor for unlocking and security features. The selfie camera is said to be placed on the top center part of the screen. Mac Otakara, however, mentioned that it would sport a FaceTime camera instead of True Depth. While the Japanese site has had some accurate leaks before, abandoning the True Depth sensor for the iPhone 13 seems quite far-fetched at this point.
On the back of the 3D mock-up, the iPhone 13 sports a similar boxed compartment for the cameras. It has five holes punched purportedly for four cameras with LiDAR support and the flash. Another very interesting aspect of the design is that it sports a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port.
Meanwhile, well-known Apple leaker Jon Prosser found the iPhone 13 report laughable. He also shared another earlier report on the iPhone 13 design, which he debunked adding that the 2021 iPhones – that could also be named iPhone 12S – will have a similar layout as the iPhone 12.
iPhone 13 possible release date
It is obviously still too early to discuss iPhone 13, especially when the iPhone 12 has not even seen the light yet. However, if 2021 becomes a much better year than 2020, tech fans can expect to see the iPhone 13 unveiled in September next year.
