iPad Pro with slightly larger OLED displays reportedly planned for 2024

Apple has been rumored to use OLED panels on more devices other than iPhones, and it appears that could happen with upcoming iPad Pros. A new report has claimed that both premium tablets will receive the upgrade in the future, along with a slight tweak in display size.

Display analyst Ross Young, who has provided accurate predictions and supply chain information before, told MacRumors that Apple is gearing up to release new iPad Pros with OLED panels. The updated design is expected to enter the market in the first quarter of 2024.

Currently, both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros still use LCD panels. But the latter has adopted the mini-LED backlight solution for two generations now.

The same report mentioned that Apple is not planning to bring the mini-LED update for the smaller iPad Pro. That means it will be updated directly to adopt an OLED display in 2024.

Around the same time, DigiTimes reported that mini-LED suppliers are planning to focus on the demand from the automotive industry while expecting reduced orders for consumer electronic applications as Apple is expected to adopt OLED displays in the future.

Young also noted that the OLED-equipped iPad Pros would have 11.1-inch and 13-inch displays. These are very slight changes to the current screen sizes of the premium tablets, but it’s still a noteworthy update to go along with the OLED adoption.

But with a change that small, Apple is unlikely to make the overall form factor bigger. The company could simply make the bezels thinner for both iPad Pro models to deliver a slightly bigger screen size.

There have been reports throughout 2022 that Apple is looking to expand its iPad lineup with a new model with a larger screen. Young first mentioned last June that the tech giant was considering a 14.1-inch iPad Pro that could be released in early 2023. However, the analyst has now updated his prediction, saying Apple has either canceled those plans or moved its intended launch further into the future.
