I am an insect ecologist, with an MSc from Imperial College London in Biodiversity and Taxonomy, and a PhD from ETH Zurich on the bee microbiome. Prior to my work at CSIRO, I have conducted research on bee health as a postdoc and research fellow at Yale (USA), UT Austin (USA), and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (UK) with a focus on the bee microbiome, bee parasites and medicinal or nutritional benefits of nectar and pollen chemistry for bees. At CSIRO, I am currently researching the functional importance of the microbiome in beneficial insects (bees, beetles, flies), with a focus on engineering the Black Soldier Fly larval microbiome to enable improved waste processing. I have in addition been an outreach officer with the charity Australian Invertebrates since 2022, working on citizen science monitoring of Christmas Beetles.
