Mike Cortie was born and educated in South Africa, where he obtained a BSc(Engineering), an MSc and a PhD, all in materials engineering. After 15 years consultancy in the minerals and metals industry he relocated to Australia in 2002. Mike is Physics Discipline Leader, at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. He is interested in the technology of precious metals and in the interaction of light with nanostructures.
