The most awaited Republican convention for this year’s election has begun in Cleveland, Ohio yesterday and it is clearer than ever that the Republican Party would be heading into 2016 Presidential election as divided one and they will have to live with that, at least for this year. If their nominee Donald Trump fails to win the November election, there may be some reconciliation but if he wins it may continue for years.
It is now quite clear, that Donald Trump hasn’t been able to unite the party. During the first day of the convention, several Republican opponents demanded a change in the convention rule and allow members to vote for an outside candidate. Their demand for a roll call was rejected after a voice voting, saying that they lack a majority.
The first day of the convention rather than showing unity got tainted with protest and notable absentees. Former Presidents were not there, over their protest against Trump’s insults to Jeb Bush. Another notable absentee was Ohio Governor John Kasich, whose absence in his own turf raised lots of eyebrows.
This year Donald Trump will be fighting for Oval office without the whole party’s backing and this halfhearted support likely to bring lesser dollars for his campaign.
