SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt., April 4, 2016 -- Population Media Center (PMC), a nonprofit dedicated to improving health and human rights globally with entertainment TV and radio programs, has selected David Walker to serve in the newly-created role of Executive Vice President. Walker will be joining the team on April 11, 2016.
"It gives me great pleasure to announce that David Walker will be Population Media Center's Executive Vice President," says Bill Ryerson, PMC President and Founder. "David has a lot of experience in social marketing and international development work, particularly in the fields of reproductive health and the environment. He will be focused on shaping and leading PMC's plan to expand to have a global impact on health, human rights, population, and environmental issues."
Walker comes to the Executive Vice President role with a deep commitment to international health and conservation issues. Building on PMC's exceptional record of success in over 50 countries, Walker will facilitate the development of PMC's strategic planning process that focuses on programmatic growth and increased global impact. He will be essential in setting metrics and goals for program expansion and directing operations in the U.S.
"There are three overall aspects that most excite me about PMC," says Walker. "First, PMC's mission tackles many of the developing world's big problems, which cannot be addressed effectively without limiting population pressure. Second, PMC's approach to creating compelling stories that reach people at a factual and emotional level requires a disciplined and constantly curious 'bottom-up' perspective, as well as copious amounts of humility and openness. And finally, PMC's scalable and evidence-based model provides a genuine opportunity to affect the future in a profound and meaningful way."
Walker will partner with President Bill Ryerson, an exceptional leadership team, and a highly talented staff to strategically guide and support a high impact, sustainable global operation with headquarters in South Burlington, Vermont.
"I look forward to learning about entertainment-education approaches, bringing to bear my background to improve PMC's operations where needed, becoming an effective advocate for PMC's approach, and also helping PMC grow so it continues to generate tangible and meaningful impact while being a fun and productive place to work," says Walker.
Walker has over seven years of private sector business experience and over 20 years of international social marketing experience. In his most recent role, Walker served as the Senior Vice President, Social Marketing and Program Services at Rare and before that spent 20 years at Population Services International in roles both in Africa and at headquarters.
"PMC's mission positively impacts many important and fundamental problems whether they are environmental, economic, or social in nature. I hope PMC grows in breadth (more country operations) and depth (longer term presence in countries) so we can have greater impact and do more good," says Walker.
