Even as there are only weeks to go until the November elections, many celebrities and influential figures are announcing their support of former vice president Joe Biden in his presidential bid. One of his latest endorsements comes in the form of climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
Thunberg, who was known for sparking protests calling for a solution to global warming all over the world, has recently voiced her endorsement of Biden. The 17-year-old activist urged her followers on social media to go to the polls and vote for the Democratic presidential nominee, making it the first time she has endorsed a politician as well.
“I never engage in party politics. But the upcoming US elections is above and beyond all that. From a climate perspective it’s very far from enough and many of you of course supported other candidates. But I mean...you know...damn! Just get organized and get everyone to vote for #Biden,” tweeted Thunberg, as a caption of a retweet of the Scientific American’s piece about voting to end the attacks made by the Trump administration on science.
Biden has outlined his policies on climate change and has pledged for the US to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords if he gets elected in November. Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the accords and reversed the Obama-Biden era’s climate agenda for the benefit of the energy and automobile industries. Thunberg has also been a victim of Trump’s attacks on her via Twitter when she was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019.
Meanwhile, the Biden campaign has made use of the surge in fundraising donations over the past few months in buying airtime and ad space. The campaign was revealed to have hit the $500 million mark in ads on all platforms, from tv to digital, and radio advertisements. The amount also includes the ads bought during the primaries.
Following his formal nomination, Biden and his campaign have focused on the swing states, key states that he will need to win over in order to win the presidency.
