Tech-forward defense companies Anduril Industries and Palantir Technologies are reportedly joining forces to develop critical software for the United States' most ambitious missile defense initiative to date — the Golden Dome antimissile shield. According to a source familiar with the matter, the collaboration positions both firms at the center of a program that has quickly become one of the most competitive defense contracts in American history.
President Donald Trump's Golden Dome missile defense initiative carries a staggering price tag of $185 billion, a figure that recently climbed by $10 billion as program directors moved to accelerate space-based capabilities. The project's core mission is to create a comprehensive, space-based interceptor system capable of neutralizing ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missile threats — a next-generation leap in national security infrastructure.
Hundreds of companies have been vying for a stake in Golden Dome since its inception. Both Anduril and Palantir expressed early interest in the program, and previous reporting linked them to collaborative efforts with Elon Musk's SpaceX on various components of the shield. Anduril further cemented its involvement after being awarded one of several small Golden Dome contracts in November, tasked with developing competing missile defense prototypes alongside a select group of firms.
Additional companies confirmed to be contributing to the initiative include Aalyria Technologies, AI data firm Scale AI, and software provider Swoop Technologies. On the traditional defense contracting side, industry giants Lockheed Martin, RTX, and Northrop Grumman have already secured roles as prime contractors on the program.
As the Golden Dome project continues to scale, the convergence of Silicon Valley-style tech companies and legacy defense contractors signals a significant shift in how the U.S. military approaches large-scale, technology-driven national defense programs.
