For months, rumors about the GoPro Hero 8 has made its round on the web as the San Mateo-based company maintains its silence about the upcoming refresh. Now, that silence has been broken as the manufacturer announced that the upcoming model would be released on Oct. 1.
The GoPro Hero 8 announcement was posted on the company’s Twitter, and Instagram accounts partially teasing the device’s build. There were also a few clips meshed together in the video that is likely taken from the soon-to-be-released version.
The two devices that can be seen in the footage are probably the GoPro Hero 8 Black and the Go Pro Max, the latter being the successor to the GoPro Fusion. To help remind fans, the company set up a Youtube countdown for anyone who’s interested in viewing the event live, which will be streamed at 06:00 PDT.
GoPro Hero 8 is supposedly capable of 4K/120 fps
So what are the rumors saying about the GoPro Hero 8? Well, if the claims proved to be true, the next entry will have its body upgraded to accommodate accessories including a mic, a detachable screen, and LED light, PhotoRumors reported.
The processor of the GoPro Hero 8 will apparently be the new GP2 chip that can capture great footage in low-light, improve stabilization, and has an improved power efficiency. What’s more, the GoPro Hero 8 is supposedly capable of shooting at 4K/120 fps and 1080p Full HD video at up to 480fps.
GoPro Hero 8 should have an improved battery life
Unfortunately, the rumors haven’t mentioned any battery upgrade for the next model. With powerful shooting capabilities and additional accessories slotted on the GoPro Hero 8, it’s imperative that the action camera will have an upgraded battery to accommodate all that demand. Sure, the GP2 chip can mitigate some of that strain but it wouldn’t be enough. Not to mention that the company also needs to solve the heating issues that have plagued the previous iterations.
As for its price, the GoPro Hero 8 will likely be at $400, although that figure could see an increase if the company has indeed made some pretty significant changes. In any case, we’ll be hearing about the device in a week anyway, and we’ll find out which of the rumors fall flat and which ones are on the money.
