French Election: Macron begins round two campaigns badly

The round two of the Presidential campaign for the frontrunner candidate Emmanuel Macron, who came first with 24 percent of the votes in the election round one, began with a sour note. He was heckled and booed during in his home city of Amiens, while he was visiting the Whirlpool plant. The whirlpool plant is supposed to get closed, with all 300 workers fired as the plan is to relocate to Poland. While Macron was meeting with the union leaders in the Chamber of Commerce, his opponent Marine le Pen made an unannounced surprise visit to the plant.

Taking the moment away from Macron she said, “When I heard that Emmanuel Macron was coming here and did not plan to meet the workers, did not plan to come to the picket line but would shelter himself who knows where in the chamber of commerce... I considered it was such a sign of contempt for the Whirlpool workers that I decided to... come here and see you”. To the chorus of applause, she added, “Everyone knows what side Emmanuel Macron is on….he is on the side of the corporations. I am on the workers’ side, here in the car park, not in restaurants in Amiens…… He’s (Macron) showing disdain for workers, so I’ve come to see them”.

When Emmanuel Macron finally arrived at the factory gate, Marine Le Pen was gone, so was the moment. Instead of cheering, he faced a chorus… “Marine President.”

A survey conducted by Bloomberg shows that 52 percent of the survey respondents think that Emmanuel Macron has done badly in his second round campaigning so far.
