CJ CheilJedang sold three million units of its plant-based PlanTable in just 10 months after it was first introduced. Now the company is bringing this brand to 30 markets worldwide through export.

CJ CheilJedang launched the vegan food brand in December 2021 and in October this year, it had already recorded cumulative sales of around three million units. The company said that PlanTable has an average monthly sales growth rate of 20% and remained at that level.

The South Korean food company that manufactures food ingredients, frozen and chilled packaged food products is developing such kinds of food products to create new businesses. And with the success of its latest plant-based brand, it will focus on boosting PlanTable’s presence in the market.

As per The Korea Economic Daily, CJ CheilJedang started PlanTable by exporting vegan dumplings and kimchi. It gradually added more products in the line and in July, released plant-based Tteok-galbi (short-rib patties), rice balls, and hamburger steak.

The company also increased the number of export destinations from 10 to 30 countries in less than a year after its debut. The brand also earned Italy’s vegan certification called the V-label as PlanTable has already reached the United Kingdom, Germany, and England.

It is also available in India and Africa. In any case, the certification definitely upped PlanTable’s credibility in Europe thus more local people are trusting the brand.

CJ CheilJedang's plant-based brand is not only appealing to vegetarians as the general consumers are also buying the products. In fact, based on the sales data of CJ The Market mall outlet, 80% of the buyers of PlanTable’s dumplings also purchased meat since its arrival in the market until last month.

With this outcome, a source from CJ CheilJedang commented that “This shows that plant-based products are not substitutes for conventional products and have created their own category.”

Finally, Business Korea reported that women in their 30s and 40s made up 70% of the buyers. The number of purchasers of PlanTable plant-based food in their 30s is also said to be going up these days plus positive reviews are often posted on social media.
