SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 20, 2017 -- The Automotive Division of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) has awarded their prestigious Quality Leader of the Year Award to Scott A. Gray, director of quality products & services at the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG). The ASQ Automotive Division presents this award annually to recognize the quality leadership contributions of outstanding automotive industry leaders – specifically executives who demonstrate a customer-focused quality philosophy and a defect prevention oriented vision.
Scott Gray was nominated for his ability to drive transformational change, demonstrate customer focus, and his track record of collaboration and continual improvement. According to David Butler, chairman of the ASQ Automotive Division, “Scott was selected for this award for his visionary leadership and transformational change in driving quality improvement on an international level. He is most deserving of this prestigious recognition.”
Gray’s achievements include the revision of the industry’s Quality Management System Standard, IATF 16949:2016, and the development of the new AIAG-VDA FMEA Handbook. Both efforts required significant collaboration among key players in the global automotive supply chain and took multiple years to complete, demonstrating perseverance – another trait Quality Leader of the Year winners share.
“I am honored to receive this award from ASQ,” said Gray. "Working collaboratively with OEMs and suppliers on quality projects for the industry has been a tremendous experience. I am proud of the impact these initiatives have, and will have in the future, on the automotive industry. I view quality as a team sport, and it is my opinion that the industry is poised to accelerate progress in product quality and safety with more of these collaborative projects in the coming years."
