Marine Ecologist, CSIRO
Robs research career has included:
• Prawn population dynamics and prawn/ habitat interactions: abundance and distribution, growth and movement of tiger and banana prawns in the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf; patterns of recruitment of juvenile tiger and banana prawns to nursery habitats; the characteristics and productivity of nursery habitats and ecological processes to fisheries;
• Tropical seagrass community dynamics: seasonal monitoring of growth, shoot density and morphology; mapping of the species distribution; re-colonisation following cyclonic impact; impact assessment on tropical and sub-tropical seagrasses.
• Fishery stock enhancement studies: Developing techniques for enhancing prawn fisheries, with a focus on brown tiger prawns (Penaeus esculentus) in Exmouth Gulf.
• Management of natural resources (including fisheries): Impact of spatial zoning in Marine Park management on human activity and patterns of fishing; Northern Prawn Fishery closures/protocols for their effectiveness.
Rob manages small project teams undertaking field-based data gathering, data management and analysis, and report writing.
