Professor of Development Geography, Royal Holloway
David Simon is Director of Mistra Urban Futures, Gothenburg, and Professor of Development Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. A former Rhodes Scholar, he specialises in development–environment issues, with particular reference to cities, climate change and sustainability, and the relationships between theory, policy and practice, on all of which he has published extensively. He has also worked and published on the relationships between transport/mobility and development, and geopolitical transitions. At Mistra Urban Futures, he leads the pioneering methodological research on comparative transdisciplinary co-production. Geographically, he has extensive experience across sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, the UK, Sweden and USA. He is author, editor and co-editor of many books and journal special issues on cities, development-environment challenges and climate change adaptation, most recently Rethinking Sustainable Cities: Accessible, green and fair (Policy Press, 2016), Holocaust Escapees and Global Development: Hidden histories (Zed Books, 2019) and Key Thinkers on Development (2nd edn, Routledge, 2019).
