Scholar Emeritus in the School of Public Health & Human Biosciences, La Trobe University
David Legge is a scholar emeritus in the School of Public Health and Human Biosciences at La Trobe University in Melbourne where he has been teaching health services management and health policy since 1995. He started his career as a physician but moved early on into health services research, health policy and public health. David has teaching and research interests in the political economy of health, comparative health systems, primary health care and international health policy. From 1998 to 2010 he directed the La Trobe China Health Program which is a research and teaching collaboration with a number of universities in China in the areas of health management and health policy. David has also been involved with the international People’s Health Movement since its formation in December 2000 in Bangladesh. His main involvement with PHM has been with the International People’s Health University (IPHU) and WHO Watch. IPHU is a short course program in the political economy of health for health activists. Since the first course in Cuenca, Ecuador, in 2005 there have been 39 further IPHU courses in developing countries around the world with around 3,000 participants by end 2019.
