Genavee Brown

Lecturer in Psychology, Northumbria University, Newcastle
Dr. Genavee Brown has travelled far and wide to complete her psychology studies, starting in North Carolina, USA where she earned a BA (hons) in Psychology at Wake Forest University. She travelled to the west coast of the United States to get her MS in Experimental Psychology at Western Washington University. She finally completed her studies in Rennes, France at the Université Rennes 2, earning a PhD in Social Psychology. She currently holds a Lecturer postion at Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.

Her main research interests are how people use technology to help them maintain and develop relationships. All of her travels have inspired her to examine the role that culture plays in technology use and the types of relationships that people maintain online.

Her previous research has centred on how university students use Facebook to maintain and develop friendships and acquaintances during the transition to university. She has also studied how mobile phones can interrupt face-to-face interactions. Her future research will continue examining questions around self-disclosure online to large audiences.
